Free Gif Maker-I Got Bored and Vibe Coded a Free GIF Maker — 30+ Filters, Zero Uploads, 100% Open Source

For those waiting on the experiment — it’s still happening. I’ve hit a few kinks that are proving harder to crack than I expected, but I’m close. You’ll see what I’ve been building soon enough.

In the meantime, I got bored today. So I did what any reasonable person does when they’re bored: I vibe coded an entire GIF studio from scratch.

SumoSized GIF Maker is a free, browser-based video to GIF converter that runs entirely on your machine. No uploads. No servers. No one touches your files but you. It processes everything locally using WebAssembly and FFmpeg, which means your media never leaves your browser.

And I didn’t build some bare-bones converter. This thing has over 30 visual filters — everything from VHS and Matrix to Glitch, Thermal, and Acid Trip. You get custom text overlays with multiple font choices, border controls, and drop shadows. Pro cropping presets for TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Speed controls, boomerang loops, chroma key background removal, and frame-by-frame extraction. I tried to make this as comprehensive as I possibly could.

Remember: when people tell you that you can’t be creative with AI, they’re trying to stop you. They don’t want you doing stuff like this. They want you to believe the tools are off-limits, that the barrier to entry is too high, that you need permission from someone who matters more than you do. You don’t.

The entire project is 100% open source on GitHub. Fork it. Break it. Rebuild it into something I never imagined. Make it grow. That’s the whole point.

Don’t let anyone tell you how or what to create.
